Subdomains and parked domains are frequently used web lingo.  Subdomains live within the sub directories of an existing website.  Parked domains are just website names that push visitors over to another (hopefully fully developed) website.

For those of you who may still be confused by the terms here's a breakdown of the differences between the two.

Subdomains:

Subdomains are a way of creating separate accounts within your main account.
The subdomain can be accessed through a separate URL in the form of 'http://subdomain.domainname.com'

This represents a sub folder within the public_html level of your account and you can even create e-mail accounts with the subdomain extension.

Subdomains are often used to make access to subdirectories easier by simply typing in a shorter domain name rather than the full domain name then the directory/folder name.

Q: Can you setup subdomains within an InfoUpgrade account?

A: Absolutely!

Parked domains, domain pointers, domain alias or domain forwarders:

These are all synonyms of one another.  A parked domain allows you to point multiple domain names to the same website.

For example, yourdomain.com, yourdomain.net and somethingelse.com can all point to the same location. However,it CANNOT point to a folder on the main domain. And, it does not have any FTP features (for those of you who may need the extra web storage to upload and download from).

The good news is that with InfoUpgrade Web Services, parked domain have no web hosting costs.  All you have to do is register the name of the parked domain (just $12 for a full year) and point the site to the address of the primary website.

Q: Can you get help pointing your parked domain to the primary site?

A: Absolutely!
